I stumbled onto The Archive in May, and as a result, found out about these Warfield shows, and about Jackie Greene. As a result of downloading and listening to these particular Warfield shows, I just had to see this band.
My 11 year old boy has been playing guitar since about the age of four, and he's into Clapton especially, but he loves the jam bands, and is thoroughly into the Dead and Phil too.
This concert was simply terrific. I took my boy, who hung on in there through the first set, but was simply too tired to stay.
Anyway, the first set was extraordinary... and pretty much a Jackie showcase. The whole thing really was really special... my personal favorite was Dire Wolf (Larry on pedal steel) but wow on Me & My Uncle (Jackie's singing and harmonica) and Love Light which is a fabulous jam. While I wasn't there for set 2 and encore, Franklin's and Rider were just perfect... This afternoon my son and I were blasting them, driving off Cape Cod, with the top down in the sunshine.
Anyway, Phil is simply prodigious. As are Jackie and Larry the the other band members. The music, now on Archive, is superb musicianship.
I'll see P&F at Jones Beach July 13. Can't wait!
Way to go Phil!
Hey now
Id love to hit up Denver this spring. I just might do that.
